Washington Post, June 19, 1995

Philip William Contes, 36, a lawyer with the Washington firm of Newman, Bouknight and Edgar, died of lymphoma June 17 at the Hospice of Northern Virginia. A resident of Vienna, he had lived in the Washington area since 1986.

Mr. Contes worked in Washington initially with the firm of Doub, Muntzing and Glascow, which merged in 1991 with the Newman firm.

Mr. Contes was a native of Pittsburgh and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he also received a law degree and a master's degree in international affairs.

Early in his career, he was a consultant to a chemical corporation in Pittsburgh and a lawyer with the National Legal Research Group in Charlottesville.

He was a member of the parish council at St. Mary's Eastern Orthodox Church in Falls Church.

Survivors include his wife, Regina Kvitkovich, and two children, Theodore William Contes and Helena Rose Contes, all of Vienna; his parents, William Contes and Henrietta Contes, both of Long Boat Key, Fla.; and two brothers, Michael Contes of New Kensington, Pa., and John Contes of Beaver Falls, Pa.

Phil was such a nice guy. We hung out a lot around Parker Drive back in the days when parents didn't worry if you stayed out all day and evening. We lost him too young.

Peter Gregory

Phil was an all around gentmen and friend. We both had Formento in Chem.  A real nut breaker of a class. I only got though by more or less sitting next to him and peeking over his notes. Forgot just how long the time has passes since he left us.
